What does Jem's reticence to cry in front of Scout foreshadow?

This is about a loss of innocence. Mr. Radley cements up the tree hole and all the mystery dies. I think this foreshadows the eventual indictment of Tom Robinson. This will finally destroy any innocence Jem might have had left.
