It has been awhile since I have seen the movie but recall that it follows the narrative tension of the story. Scary scenes, like Scout and Jem walking home after the pageant, have tension filled music. The scene when the kids are playing in the neighborhood has happier music. As the kids approach the Radley place the music turns tense again.
