To Kill a Mockingbird

To whom is Atticus refering to? Who does Jim discover to be nice after he gets to know him?

In chapter 31 Scout says of a character in The Gray Ghost: "Atticus he was really nice..." Atticus responds,"Most people are Scout, when you finally see them."

The Grey Ghost is in reference to Boo Radley. Boo has lives in a colourless world, his soul transparent to the town. Only rumour, innuendo and childhood stories define him. When Scout and Jem discover their benevolent phantom, they see the humanity behind their own "Grey Ghost" and all of a sudden he is no longer a phantom, he is a living breathing friend.
