Before the accusations against Tom, Helen went about her business of raising children and taking her place within the black community. After the accusals and during the subsequent trial, Helen is persecuted, finds herself unable to get work, harrassed by Bob Ewell, and devastated by her husband's death. Thankfully, Link Deas and Reverend Sykes step up and help her to find work, heal, and move onto support her family.
