Reverend Sykes wouldn't let anyone leave until a large enough offering was taken to help Helen Robinson. Why would he do this, and do you think this was right?

Reverend Sykes was determined that the church would make a difference in the life of Helen Robinson and her family. With her husband unjustly on trial for rape, Helen was left to carry on alone. Her family needed help...... churches took care of their own.
