The novel is narrated in first person by Scout. She is an adult looking back on her childhood in Maycomb. She uses the voice of her child self which is probably the most entertaining part of the story. A rebellious tomboy, Scout has a fierce disposition toward any who challenge her, but at heart she believes in the goodness of people. Scout reacts to the terrible events of the book without losing hope in humanity.
