In To Kill a Mockingbird, why is everyone happy that Jem and Scout are there?

The blacks at the church, with the exception of Lula, are honored to have the kids of Atticus Finch there. Atticus is doing so much for Tom Robinson and the black community respects Atticus. Calpurnia also loves Scout and Jem.
