How does Bob Ewell die and did he deserve to die?

Boo Radley kills Bob with Bob's own knife. Heck tate suggests they just say Bob Ewell died by falling on his own knife to spare Boo the unwanted attention. Does Bob Ewell deserve to die? This is really asking for your opinion rather than mine.
