Atticus might have been afraid of the mob of men that had come to lynch Tom Robinson but he bravely sat in between Tom and the mob. Atticus refused to let Tom, a mockingbird figure, be harmed by men who were ignorant and full of hate. Atticus always followed the right thing to do: this event was no different.
