Scout overhears Uncle Jack and Atticus talking. Uncle Jack explains that he doesn't want to have children because he doesn't understand them well enough. Atticus muses that Scout needs to learn to keep her temper under control because in the next few months, there is going to be a lot in store for the family. Atticus goes into a little more detail of the ugliness in town that she might face. Atticus knows Scout is eavesdropping and he does not tell her to go to bed until he is done.
