No, Jem is no longer afraid of the gifts in the tree in Chapter Seven. He's curious and even writes a thank you note to their mysterious benefactor. None-the-less, once Mr. Radley fills the hole with cement, Jem gets an inkling that the gifts might be from Boo.... and he's saddened by Mr. Radley's intervention.
