In both trials you had a case of a black man being convicted of the rape of a white girl. Like To kill a Mockingbird, the Scottsboro trial takes place in the Southern United States around the same time the book was set in. Scottsboro had nine black men being tried. Much like in To Kill a Mockingbird, these men were obviously innocent but convicted by an all white jury of racist men. Unlike To kill a Mockingbird Scottsboro did not end with just one trial.
