Miss. Maudie is a lady in every sense of the word. She's tough as nails, completely loyal, and loving to boot. She can socialize with Maycomb's finest and has no problem telling those who believe themselves superior that they're not really all that. Miss. Maudie also treats the children with respect and fairness.

"She had never told on us, had never played cat-and-mouse with us, she was not at all interested in our private lives." (Chapter Five)
