Miss. Maudie was the eternal optimist. She didn't let anything get her down, including the loss of her home. According to the text, she saw the advantages of the fire in the following way.

“Always wanted a smaller house, Jem Finch. Gives me more yard. Just think, I’ll

have more room for my azaleas now!”

"Why, I hated that old cow barn. Thought of settin‘ fire to it a hundred times myself, except they’d lock me up.”
