She thinks this because Scout doesn't fit the mold of a genteel Southern girl. Scout is outspoken and passionate. Aunt Alexandra takes this as a sign of ignorance and low social skills. Aunt Alexandra fails to see that Scout is much like her father, only less evolved and refined.
