what can you infer about the man's personality and character?

Based on his actions, the man is over confidant in his abilities to traverse the path he treads. He believes he has the power to overcome the nature that surrounds him, as I've already said he's arrogant. That's not to say he isn't intelligent......... but he is foolish.
