What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of the protagonist?

The man is referred to as the "newcomer". Still, he is pretty tough. It's like -70 degrees out and he is able to travel by foot. When he gets his foot wet, he is pretty handy with a fire. I think that's about it for the positives. I'm going to list the negatives below because there are so many,

-he is too cocky, thinks he can beat nature at her own game

-he is a big jerk to his dog. He even tries to turn his dog into a sleeping bag at the end.

-does not heed the rhythms of nature

-overestimates his ability to handle whatever comes

-becomes disoriented and makes silly mistakes
