Triumph of Good Over Evil

The primary theme of the novel is the battle between the "goodies" and the "baddies"; Bond is the principal good character and he and his team are engaged in a battle with the evil characters, led by Ernst Blofeldt, who are trying to blow up key strategic targets in America with stolen atomic bombs. As each side tries to outwit the other, the triumph of those on the side of good triumph, firstly at the health farm when Bond gets the better of Count Lippe, then in the Bahamas when Bond, Leiter and Domino overcome Largo and the rest of the SPECTRE members, is always the theme of the battle of wills and ingenuity. The evil characters receive their just desserts and the good characters live to fight another day.

Post-war Activities of War Criminals of World War Two

World War II saw many of its war criminals escape or evade capture and one of the themes of the book is what they got away with and what they have gone on to do with the skills and experiences they have had. The members of SPECTRE who have been on the side of the Nazis in World War Two are predominantly scientists who put science above humanity. The theme is also the tendency of people who use wartime as an opportunity to feather their own nest to continue to use subterfuge and espionage after the war is over.

Bond's Attraction To Women

Bond is deeply attracted to beautiful women and rather obsessed with getting to know them on a physical level. At Sheublands his attention is taken up with his pretty masseuse and whilst in the Bahamas his focus is at least partially on Domino Vitali. Even back at MI5 headquarters he focuses on Moneypenny at least as much as his mission or his superior. Bond's obsession with beautiful women is a theme not just throughout this novel but throughout the 007 series.
