How did syed help greg ? And why ?

Kishwar Syed, a Pakistani owner of a local photocopying shop, teaches Mortenson how to use a computer; the copy-and-paste function is nothing short of miraculous to him for the time it saves. He helped Greg because he was attempting to raise money for a school, something that was important to Sayed because the village he'd grown up in did not have one. 

"My village in Pakistan had no school so the importance of what Greg was trying to do was very dear to me," Sayed says. "His cause was so great it was my duty to devote myself to help him."
