Three Bags Full Background

Three Bags Full Background

Originally published in German, Three Bags Full (2005) has since been translated into more than thirty languages, including English. The novel is told from the perspective of a flock of sheep who decide to investigate the murder of their shepherd, George Glenn. Glenn, who was a kind but lonely man, was pinned to the ground with a stake. However, their efforts are hampered by their inability to speak. They can, however, listen to the people around them as they discuss the poor farmer's death. After a lengthy investigation, they uncover who committed the murder, forcing them to concoct a way to bring the criminal who killed Mr. Glenn to justice. Although the setup is dark, the book focuses on humorous and heartwarming situations that affect the sheep and shape their worldviews.

Critics and audiences across the world have written extensively about the novel, with one critic from Kirkus Reviews calling the novel "magical." Another review, from Publisher's Weekly, called the novel "refreshingly original." These positive reviews and its successful sales figures spawned a film adaption of the novel. Set to release in November 2026 by MGM and Amazon, the film will star Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson in the main roles.
