How are the poem 'beeny cliff' and 'the going' related to each other?

A detailed analysis to show how the ideas in both poems are linked with each other.

The two poems are related because they are each written as a direct result of Hardy's wife Emma's death. "The Going," was written as a goodbye, and it dealt with Hardy's sorrow over not having been with her when she died, and his guilt for having ignored her in the last few years before she passed.

In the “ Beeny Cliff,” Hardy takes a good look back at their lives, especially the years in which they loved each other. This poem more-or-less represents the good of the marriage, whereas, "The Going" represents what could have been better.
