The author's purpose is writing the book was to create an awareness of suicide and the overwhelming effects that gossip and cruelty have on individuals. I don't know what the author's solution to the problem is, but as readers, we can infer that Asher's advice would include thinking before we speak, and that as individuals, we should step in and show empathy to those who are struggling rather than adding to the problem.
