Why does Achebe end this chapter by relating the nature of the relastionship between Ikemefuna and Nwoye?

I suppose this episode in the story is a sort of "coming of age." Okonkwo is severe with these boys when they show their inexperience planting yams, but by enduring his wrath they show a certain solidarity together.
