The collision of cultures had a negative impact on Okonkow. He became an angry and violent man. He felt threatened by the white man, as well as what he saw as the white man's interference and destruction of his world. When the village begins to accept the white man, Okonkwo's resentment grows and causes him to become more boisterous..... reckless. In the end, his reckless and impetuous behavior leads him to kill a court messenger, an unforgivable act that puts his people in peril. It is at this time that Okonkwo realizes the clan will not follow his lead into war..... he is alone. In the end, he chooses to take his own life.
