His point of view is in stark contast to his father's. It puts into perspective the struggles anyone who does not fit into Okonkwo's narrow deffinition of manliness must endure. It also gives us a sense of the bond that has developed between Ikemefuna and the family. In a sense Ikemefuna has become a bridge for Nwoye to his father.
