The Igbo life was very much steeped in their mythology. Their superstitions were very real to them. The Ibo people dark, they believed it was it was a time when evil spirits could find them. Not unlike Christian mythology, they also feared snakes and would not call them out by name. These superstitions made up the texture and identity of the Igbo. THeir spirit life was real and vivid. The order and chaos of the world had meaning to them. This is why, when the Christian missionaries came and challenged their superstitions, their world quickly unravelled.
