Okonkwo and his father were complete opposites. Unoka was lazy, without ambition, and shamed his family. As a result, Okonkwo, shamed by his father's life, worked hard to gain respect and importance. As a father, Okonkwo was demanding, but he also modeled the behavior he expected from his children.
