How could one counter the argument that colonialism destroyed traditional structures?

Standard arguments supporting Colonial powers have to do with foreign powers bringing skills, money, investment, infrastructure.... with them. Unfortunately, everything these powers bring is for the express exploitation of their resource: in this case the invaded country.
