Why do you think the author includes Mrs. Turner on the novel

Mrs. Turner is a descendant of both black and white parentage, something you'd never know by her behavior. Turners appearance in the story illuminates the reader to how deeply racism was imbedded in the American culture and acts as its poster girl. To see a woman who is half black turn her back on her heritage and worship all things white, even if it means she herself is demeaned is beyond out comprehension. That is why Turner is included in the novel.... she educates us.
