what does logan want janie to do while he is gone ?

In Chapter Four, Logan wakes up and tells Janie that he is going to Lake City to buy a mule, and expresses his wish for her to do hard labor at home while he is gone. Janie is not happy about this and says that all she will do is cut potatoes, and Logan calls her spoiled.
