In chapters 18 and 19, what steps does Tea Cake take which, without his knowledge, lead to his death?

Basically, Tea Cake's decision to stay in the Everglades while everyone else is leaving puts everyone in danger. His decision to fo out in the storm, taking Janie with him, also put Janie in a position where she almosts drowns. He in turn gets bit by a dog with rabies, which he contracts, and which causes his eventual suicide.
