Hurston uses dialect to be funny. Was Richard Wright correct when he criticized her and said it sounds like a minstrel show?

It is difficult for me to comment on cultural diction and dialect. I do not adequately understand the context and cultural sensitivities around them. I did not find it offensive simply because I do not know any better. Both authors, Hurston and Wright, would have reasons for their opinions.
