    How did this book surprise you? Is it a successful mystery? Why or why not?

    The Woman in White is considered one of the first mystery novels. What do students think of it? It may be very different from mystery novels we think of today, but it certainly had twists, turns, and unknowns. What part did students find most surprising? Often in mysteries we either don't know who the bad guy is or at least do not know how they got away with the bad deed. Was it strange to know the villain and even know how they accomplished their villainy, but simply need Walter to find a way to prove it?
