How would you describe the relationship between Kahu and Koro?

Kahu's deepest wish is to please her great-grandfather, Koro--a struggle which spans the length of the book--and she remains dedicated to her Maori heritage and culture. Despite trying to prove herself to Koro, their relationship is strained because Koro cannot get over his gender bias.
