Why did Ben Ross choose to introduce the "leader" of "The Wave" the way he did?

Ross needed to end the experiment. The film clip provided the students with a mirror and example of how easily people can be manipulated. The image of Hitler was a rude awakening, and the experiment came to a decisive end.
