how did the film that Ben showed interrupt the sequence of events?

The film Mr. Ross showed was a flashback that interrupted the sequence of events. What was happening in tge story was a history lesson. And I need to know how did the flashback (the documentary film) interrupt the lesson.

If I read your question correctly the film makes a big impression on the kids. Mr. Ross uses it as a springboard for his grand experiment. The students are given the context of the experiment through the film and then are ready to experience a variation of the film.
