Robert finds actual meaning under Mr. Ross and his autocratic rules. Robert goes from being a nobody to a someone with purpose. A fascist state can give everybody the same meaning in life. All of a sudden Robert finds himself on par with other students. He becomes more outgoing within the context of Mr. Ross's rules and real looks a lot happier. With the end of the wave, Robert is lost again and traumatized. He has lost the one thing that helped him belong.
