Structure:
Before this activity, instruct students to research Harriet Tubman’s life and make a list of the facts they find.
To start the activity, have students do a 5 minute freewrite in response to the following questions: Why is Harriet Tubman important to the history of the United States? What kinds of feelings came up for you while you researched her life? After five minutes, have a couple students share their thoughts. Some students may say they felt impressed reading about Tubman’s life....
