The Wars Lesson Plan

Robert Findley is just one of many writers throughout the 20th century who highlighted the absurdity of war. Others include Ernest Hemingway in novels such as For Whom the Bell Tolls, Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, and Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front. Each of these authors describes war as uniquely brutal and dehumanizing, often using stylistic flourishes to make their point. Students may also look at Findley's other works, such as the novels Headhunter and The Telling of Lies, or the dramas The Stillborn Lover and Elizabeth Rex, all of which explore the shortcomings of human society.
