McMurdo arrested McGinty because he had proof of the conspiracy to murder Edwards.

He is capable of McGinty as he gains proofs, such as the one of plotting to kill James Stanger and also Wilcox a live witness. Most importantly he has shown them trying to kill Birdy Edwards (another personality of Mc Murdo). Mc Murdo came to Vermissa Valley and joined the lodge just for the sake of investigation under authority provided to him by the Pinkerton's.
