Bowker actually killed himself less than ten years after the war.O'Brien carried his guilt over Kiowa’s death into Iowa and civilian life. Norman's anxieties were put to the public as he drives around the lie or wades in with his clothes on. O'Brien clearly felt that Norman never really left the war, he brought the war home with him.
