By the "good spirit", I assume you're referring to Ariel. Ariel's presence on the island is a direct result of Prospero's intervention and protection os Ariel from Sycorax's dark magic. Prospero aided Ariel by freeing him from the dark magic. In return, Ariel willing serves as his servant.
