The Sun Is Also a Star Background

The Sun Is Also a Star Background

After Jamaican-American author Nicola Yoon published her first novel and New York Times Bestselling book, Everything, Everything, in September 2015, she quickly began writing her next novel. The Sun Is Also a Star was as big of a hit as Yoon’s first book and was published by Delacorte Press in November 2016.

Nicola Yoon is a Jamaican-American author and decided to follow a classic piece of creative advice: “write about what you know”. In both her books, the main character is of mixed race, with curly dark hair. She writes about life and love, as “simply” as she can. The books are romance novels about people that might have it harder than a lot of other people, explaining how to deal with it.

The foundation of the book is the focus Yoon has on character development. Natasha Kingsley and Daniel Bae, the two main characters in the book, become vastly different people towards the end of the book than what they were at the beginning. Natasha falls in love with Daniel in one day but is deported out of the country. The Sun Is Also a Star also reach the New York Times Best Sellers list at first place, and one several notable awards. The book is being adapted into a movie that is premiering for release in May 2019.
