A Map of the Novel

Artistic Response

Objective:

Students will summarize key points in the novel up to this point

Structure:

Divide students into small groups. Each group will first map a timeline depicting the major events of the story up through Chapter 14. What is most important is that students identify the key turning points in the plot. Next, each group is to depict each of these events however they like. This may take the form of newspaper stories covering events, dramatizations, drawings, or whatever else students can think of. Be sure that each group has your approval before beginning work on the project.
