I'm not sure which chapter you are referring to but I'm going to assume it is when Meursault is walking in his mother's funeral procession. Meursault is dispassionate and ambivalent to the procession and the people in it. Others juxtapose Meursault’s ambivalence in the procession: they walk solemnly or are overcome with emotion.
