why does pearl call Dimmesdale a strange, sad man?

I think Pearl nails Dimmesdale's hypocrisy and pain. She sees the sadness in his eyes and the strangeness of his body language. Pearl is a free spirit. She is unabashedly passionate where Dimmesdale is contorted within himself pained by any show of genuine feelings of love or pleasure.
