Why does Hester choose to live where she lives?

Boston has become Hester's home.... for good or bad. She chooses to face those who judge her.... to continue to live, and in the process, she gains the respect of those who shunned her. Dimmesdale might also be a consideration. It may be important to Hester to raise her daughter in close proximity to her father, whether he claims her or not.
