What do most of Boston's women think of Hester and her punishment?

They feel that Hester is guilty of the "abhorrent" act of adultery and she should be punished more severely. This speaks to the hypocrisy of these women. It is probable that many of these women despise their own husbands and privately entertain thoughts of doing what Hester did.
