how did Roger Chillingworth become Dimmeadale's medical advisor

When Chillingworth arrives he is welcomed by the community for his knowledge on natural and native remedies. Dimmesdale hasn't been well, and this provides Chillingworth an excellent reason to become involved as his doctor.
