Three generations are depicted. Granny has always been hard working and independent. Her daughter, on the other hand (Albee's mother), came into money after her marriage and takes things for granted. She is described as domineering and outspoken. Granny devoted her life to caring for her daughter alone after her husband's death. When mommy provides Granny with a place to live..... there is no devotion or respect involved. Albee is out narrator.
